Introduction to Service-Learning

Service-Learning for Youth Programs
Service-Learning is form of experiential education where learning occurs through a cycle of action and reflection as leaders seek to achieve real objectives for the community and deeper understanding and skills for themselves. Service-learning supports for students include:

  • Self Reflection: Personal Development, Critical Thinking and Social-Emotional Wellness

  • Community Love: Meaningful Service, Civic Engagement and Sense of Belonging

  • Academics: Learning Objectives, Knowledge & Skills Acquisition and STEAM Education

Introduction to Servant Leadership

Servant Leadership
Servant Leadership is a management style and a process that prioritizes the greater good over individual interests. Nonprofit Servant Leaders serve employees, program participants and the community with humility, intention and care. When considering servant leadership the goal is to understand service as a leadership model and discuss its significance, characteristics and role in nonprofit management.

What distinguishes servant leadership from other leadership models is the connection to community and commitment to developing others holistically.

Nonprofit Compliance | End of Year Board Checklist

Use This Checklist Annually With Your Board
Board members are expected to provide leadership to a nonprofit organization. They are responsible for establishing policy and ensuring compliance, while the executive director (ED) is responsible for implementation and operational oversight.

Governance policies, insurance, brand presentation, strategic planning, organizational objectives and partnerships should all be revisited and understood by all leaders.

Boards will engage in different activities based on size, history, leadership styles and other factors, however, there are a few things that all boards should do at least annually.

Nonprofit Recruiting Resources

Recruiting Volunteers and Professionals For Your Nonprofit

Nonprofit Vocabulary

Understanding Nonprofit Vocabulary and Keywords
Nonprofit organizations often work with a wide range of stakeholders, including donors, volunteers, clients, government agencies, and the general public. Understanding nonprofit vocabulary can help ensure clear and effective communication with these stakeholders.

Get familiar with these terms and keywords for clear communication, compliance, effective management, and better decision making.

Service-Learning Vocabulary

What Is Service-Learning?
Service-learning is a teaching and learning strategy that combines community service with academic instruction in order to provide a meaningful and hands-on learning experience for students. It is often used in K-12 and higher education settings as a way to enhance student learning, foster civic responsibility, and strengthen communities. Through service-learning, students are able to apply what they have learned in the classroom to real-world situations and make a positive impact in their community.

We love service-learning because it improves self-esteem, communication skills, academic outcomes, and community well-being.
